The Highways/Roadways Project Engineer - Design Build performs work involving the application of all conventional aspects of civil engineering to the functional area of the assignment. Exercises judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities Roadway Design Lead on Design Build (DB) Projects for WSDOT projects including the design and review of InRoads models. Designs/reviews plans, schedules and prepares or reviews technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates. Leads the roadway/highway design and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with State, City, and County officials, and other outside agencies. Resolves a variety of complex problems, (i.e. conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements). Serves as a liaison between clients and agencies, subconsultants, and design teams. Mentors less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project. Performs other duties assigned by the Project Manager
Qualifications Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering is required. Registration as a Professional Engineer is required, Washington PE registration preferred. Understanding of Design Build process and experience delivering DB design packages. 10-15 years of progressive roadway/highway design experience is required including performing/leading design of highway design, intersections, ADA pedestrian facilities design, channelization, signing, maintenance of traffic, traffic control design, storm drainage design, and utility coordination Working knowledge with WSDOT, AASHTO, MUTCD, ADA and local-city design standards is required. Technical ability to lead the highway/roadway design and create design submittal packages Ability to coordinate all phases of a DB project. Proficient modeling highways/roadways in InRoads using alignments and templates to create roadway models. ProjectWise experience a plus. Familiar with MS Office projects (Word, Excel, Project)
